Welcome to Years 3 and 4!

Cross Country - Race and Fun Run

Years 3 and 4 participated in a Cross Country competition at Stover School. All of the children had the choice to partake in a competition or a fun 'run' to suit the needs of the individual.  Either way, the children showed great determination on the undulating 1 mile course at Stover and completed with a focus on being 'the best they can be'.  The children really competed well with some excellent displays of athleticism.  When all of the scores came in and were totalled up, it was a bit like watching a tense Eurovision final.  Unlike the singing contest though, South Brent did not score 'nul point' and were eventually crowned 1st place overall!  The first time any South Brent Cross Country team has been crowned champions in over a decade.  What an achievement, well done everyone! Eden Project Visit

Years 3 and 4 enjoyed visiting the Eden Project to support our learning about plants and the rainforest.  Before we had lunch, we enjoyed a walk through the biomes and discussed the differences between the Mediterranean and tropical ones; the main one being the heat in the tropical one!  After lunch we took part in the workshops and were able to share our existing knowledge about plants and the rainforest as well as learning much more!  We all enjoyed another visit into the tropical biome, this time to look for plants that provide food, drink, and shelter.  And, of course, we had fun walking across the wobbly bridge for a bird’s eye view!  Please look through some of our photographs below.

Fairtrade Chocolate

The children and staff of Years 3 & 4 would like to say a huge "Thank you!" to everyone who supported our Fairtrade Chocolate Sale at school! Making chocolate from Fairtrade ingredients was part of our geography topic this term on The Rainforests. We learnt about the products that come from the rainforests and how we use them in our lives in the UK as well as finding out about Faritrade and the positive impact this has on the lives of the people who live and work in the rainforests. However, making (and tasting) the chocolate was the highlight! We did enjoy planning our sale and running our different stalls on the day.

Thanks to the success of the Year 3 & 4 Faitrade Chocolate Market, we are pleased to have been able to donate £50 to the Fairtrade Foundation. The Fairtrade Foundation have sent the following response:

"Thank you for your donation! Your support means we can extend our reach and deepen the impact of Fairtrade across the world."

We hope you enjoyed it too, please look through the pictures below.
